Smoked 22 August 2010. From a 2001 box (code unknown I’m afraid) and it had been in my humi since 12 September 2009.
I’d been going through my cigars checking their condition when I noticed this Saint Luis Rey Serie A had a touch of fluffy white mould on it [after a comment that it might have been bloom, I realised I didn't mention that I believed it to be mould as it was localised and it didn't fluoresce under UV light-I may be wrong though!]. About a month back I mentioned that I thought the Partagas Chicos might benefit from some time out of their cellophane, just in an open humidor. Today (20 August 2010) I smoked one that I had removed from the cello and left in my singles box.
It had been in the humi since 20 March 2010, though only unwrapped for just over a month. I had a pint of Amstel with it and I must admit I think there was a slight improvement for leaving it out of the cellophane. I’m going to open another five to compare.
I came back from Madrid a couple of days ago, and being Spain I expected my beloved Cuban cigars to be easily available. Unfortunately not! It appears that a lot of people close their businesses and go on holiday for the whole month. Also, I had to contend with Read the rest of this entry »
I met up with Simon of The Cigar Monologues to enjoy an afternoon of Cuban cigars, conversation and booze by the river at Tafarn in Cardiff.

Friday evening I started off with a couple of Partagas Chicos (in humi since 20 March 2010). These weren’t particularly exciting but they did the job. I find it difficult to smoke these as slow as I suspect they need to be smoked.
I followed this with a go on my corncob pipe, filled with St. Bruno Flake. This was the most enjoyable experience of the night, perhaps because this time I rubbed out the flake and let it dry a little in attempt to keep it lit longer. If anyone is interested, I found a great page with videos about flake tobacco preparation. It’s here on the excellent PipesMagazine.com website.
Last of the night was a Vegas Robaina Famoso (LPM ABR 08; in humi since 20 January 2010). This wasn’t particularly good, much like the previous times I’ve smoked from this box. I really don’t know, but I might’ve ended up with a box of fakes here. I think I should just send a couple to someone who knows the flavour profile well and ask their opinion-sick or fake.
