Smoked 25 March 2011. Box code OPM OCT 09, in humidor since 3 February 2010.
I’d punched this a while back using a punch that was too large for the cigar, unfortunately damaging the cap. I’d put it back thinking I’d leave it until I wanted something good (but not that good). It was a nice sunny day and it was warm enough for a walk in the park after work so I picked this one out.
Considering I’ve had these a while now they don’t seem to have lost much of their youthful bite. Compared with something like the Bolivar Royal Corona, which seems to settle relatively quickly the difference is quite marked. I can only speculate that it’s something to do with the type of chemicals that are responsible for the flavours characteristic to Hoyo (as compared to Bolivar) are more stable and hence take longer to break down.
