Get Out While You Can

It’s not often I read a book that inspires me to tell lots of people about it. This is one of those books. Buy it from Amazon UK here.

A while back I posted a review of the MD-80 mini camcorder. I started getting increasing amounts of traffic from people searching for the instructions so I thought I’d set up a website just for those people. You can see that website here if you want: MD-80 Camera Instructions

It occurred to me that I could possibly make money off this, so I put up a few affiliate links (from Webgains) to some places that sold memory cards, as I thought people who were looking for the instructions might already own the camera (and thus not need to buy one) but might need a larger memory card. An affiliate link is a link to an online shop that basically earns someone commission on a sale. In this case, me.

I was right. Soon after I was earning up to at least 20 pence a month! Rather low I know, but it showed that it worked. Which brings me to this book. George Marshall, who wrote it, has a novel idea. What if I had a website that sold more expensive things, or for more commission? What if I had lots of those websites? The advantage of a static website is that once it is built, it doesn’t need any more building. His basic premise is to diversify, so if one source of income suffers then hopefully it won’t put too much of a dent into your overall amount of money flowing in.

The first part of the book describes his ideas in a friendly, easy-to-read manner, and the second part goes into the nuts and bolts of how you can go about putting them into practise. This book is ideal for someone completely new to building websites as it explains every step of the way. You don’t even need to learn how to write code as there is a wonderful FREE way of making websites easily called WordPress. That’s what this website is built on. If you can use the internet and follow instructions, you can build a good-looking functional website without a doubt! Another huge advantage is that start-up costs are so low. You don’t need to throw a load of cash at this to make it work.

This is NOT a ‘get rich quick’ scheme . It definitely works but the amount you make is likely proportional to the amount of effort you put in. If you’re looking for a bit of pocket money it’s definitely worth a try. Some people make a lot more than pocket money, but they’ve put a lot of effort in. If I’ve caught your interest, I suggest you owe it to yourself to buy this book (available from Amazon here) and give it a try.
